Happy Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Day!

Hello dear readers and welcome to this special edition of Shoot the Rookie. As you may know I am a huge fan of the game Xenoblade Chronicles. As you may also know, a Definitive Edition of the game was released today (that’s May 29th 2020 for those reading in the future). Therefore I decided to celebrate by putting together some pictures of the Collector’s Set that I received this morning, so why not join me to find out what it looks like!

First up, I know some of you haven’t received your copy of the game yet but please don’t get mad at me – that has definitely happened to me before and I feel your frustration. Also I know this Collector’s Set wasn’t available in all regions, but I still hope you’ll enjoy looking at it with me! I never owned a physical copy of the original so please forgive my over excitement. The Xenoblade community seems so hyped and excited right now and I just wanted to do my bit to contribute to this.

In fact this isn’t my first contribution to the hype, as yesterday I had not one but two articles about the game published on different sites. In case you missed them, make sure you check out my article over on Miketendo64 where I detail why I have bought the game, and my entry in the wonderful collaboration The Characters That Define Us over at Normal Happenings where I talk about how the character Reyn has inspired me.

Today though I just want to share some pictures and celebrate everything Xenoblade so let’s get going shall we?

First up, here is the box that the Collector’s Set comes in. It is absolutely stunning with a gentle shine on the Monado and lovely feather effects on the text.

Here’s the initial unboxing! First up we can see a pretty awesome looking steel book alongside the actual game!

Here’s a close up of the beautiful steel book. I’ve never owned one before but I’m pretty impressed with this!

And here is the front cover of the vinyl. This is probably the thing I’m most excited about!

Wow! This is probably the most beautiful picture disc I’ve ever seen. A few people were put off buying it because they don’t own a record player but it also comes with a download code!

Of course I wasn’t put off as I do own a record player. It is even the right colour!

There’s also a cool poster with the Future Connected artwork. I can’t wait to get a frame for this!

Finally there is an art book and it is absolutely ginormous and has loads of concept artwork for all the characters…

…and just to prove my point, here’s my boy Reyn ❤️

So there it is! The Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Collector’s Set! Gorgeous isn’t it? Have any of you picked up the game on launch day? Perhaps you are waiting to see what others think before jumping in? Either way, let’s celebrate the game’s release below in comments!

Happy Xenoblade Day everyone!

Thanks for reading,

  1. Recently, you may have seen a conversation on Twitter between Chris Durston and I about whether he recommended Kingdom Hearts as a game I should play. I asked as part of an effort I’m making to expand beyond my typical gaming tastes by looking to what my friends enjoy. Anyway, what I’m basically saying is that one of the games on my list, due to everything you’ve said about it, is Xenoblade Chronicles – the original for the Wii, since I’m not prepared to invest in a Switch just for one game. So yeah, I’m considering playing Xenoblade Chronicles eventually. Is there anything you think I should know about it first?

  2. Yeah I did see that! It is a cool idea. I’m not really sure there is anything you need to know as such. It is very long, so it’s good to be prepared for that, also I am aware that it isn’t universally loved and isn’t perfect. Some people don’t like the battle system for example, others don’t like the side quests, and there are other things people mention. My love for the game doesn’t completely overlook these issues (although I personally liked the battle system), but I don’t feel any of these things interfere with my enjoyment of the game. However I do always like to make people aware when recommending it, as the way I usually talk about it is so positive that I’m worried people reading might misconstrue what I’m saying and think the game is actually perfect, and it isn’t, I just love it unconditionally.
