Dear readers! Hello! Welcome to another Seriously Geeky Sunday here on Shoot the Rookie. After sadly missing last week’s prompt I’m back with a vengeance to answer today’s questions which are all about romance. Why not join me in discussing one of my favourite topics?
When I found out that today’s topic was romance, I immediately thought this might be another opportunity for me to swoon over my favourite ship. Fortunately for you however, as they are not a canon couple they have not made it into my answers and I have therefore had to engage my brain a bit more so I’m excited to share my answers with you.
Before I do just a quick reminder that for more info on the Seriously Geeky Sundays series, and to find out what the rest of July holds for us, make sure you go over to Just Geeking By. Thank you as always to the wonderful Heather for putting all this together.
Right! Let us proceed with today’s questions:
Who is your favourite couple?
Guybrush Threepwood & Elaine Marley, Monkey Island series

I’m not entirely clear on what the Governor of the Tri-Island Area see’s in that wannabe pirate, but even in the first game it is obvious that they are destined to be together, even if a certain ghost pirate has other ideas!
What is your favourite romantic scene?
Yuna & Tidus at Macalania Woods, Final Fantasy X

Not necessarily my favourite moment but one I’ve experienced recently as I’ve just finished Final Fantasy X. It is just the perfect moment, the setting is beautiful and the pair of them are just so cute that when they finally admit how they feel you can’t help but be happy for them, especially when you take into consideration what is happening in the rest of their world.
What is the perfect fictional place for a romantic date?
Outlook Park, Xenoblade Chronicles

A small park with a bench overlooking a vast lake, Outlook Park would be a lovely place to go on a peaceful and romantic date. Just far enough away from Colony 9 that you would get some privacy but not so far that you’d feel isolated, it would be perfect for a quiet picnic, or as Fiora suggests above, a great place to watch the sun rise. What could be more romantic than that?
Some romantic scenes are adorable, and then some are just plain awkward. What’s the most awkward scene you can recall?
Itsuki & Ellie go on ‘a date’, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

So this isn’t a real romantic scene (I mean Itsuki would never want to date Ellie… right?) but instead it is a series of date-like situations set up by Ellie to help her rehearse for an acting role she is going to be cast in. She has to learn how to act on a date, so she asks Itsuki to accompany her to a number of locations including a cinema and a jewellery shop (!) so she can see what it’s like. Whilst it proves a good experience for Ellie, the scene is fraught with this whole ‘is it a pretend date or is it actually a real date’ thing, which gets pretty darned awkward by the time they reach the jewellery shop!
What is your favourite wedding scene?
Vivi & Quina, Final Fantasy IX

The marriage of Vivi and Quina is purely a marriage of convenience rather than love but it is so cute and hilarious that it always sticks with me. They seem like the world’s least likely couple. I mean, I’d imagine that more than anything Quina would like to eat Vivi, but yet they both seem so pleased with the whole thing that it is impossible not to be moved by it!
Pick a fandom and play kiss/marry/avoid!

Snog: Ada Wong

This game was called ‘Snog, Marry, Avoid’ where I grew up, so please forgive the slight change of wording (I just couldn’t help myself!), but yes, in my Resident Evil edition of the game I would snog Ada. I mean, she is mysterious, super intelligent and gorgeous. She isn’t a reliable enough choice for the ‘Marry’ category though as she disappears a little too often and may or may not have shady connections!
Marry: Leon Kennedy

Leon is an all acton kind of guy. He knows how to drive a speed boat, fire a rocket launcher and use a variety of hardcore guns. He would go all out to rescue me if I were kidnapped by a rural Spanish alien cult and he looks kinda cute reloading a magnum (the gun, not the ice cream). Leon’s best trait though has to be his dry sense of humour and liberal use of sarcasm. He’d definitely be fun to be around!
Avoid: Chris Redfield

Oh Chris. What can I possibly find to say about you? He is simply one of the dullest protagonists I’ve ever met in a video game. He is, like Leon, all action for sure, but on top of that he appears to have zero personality. It is suggested in one of the games that maybe he plays guitar but without actual evidence I’m convinced that is just for show and that only serves to make things worse. Poor Chris, I guess you’re just not my S.T.A.R!
So that is that – some of my favourite romances in geekdom. Kinda. But what about you? Who are your favourite fictional couples and date spots? Let me know below in comments or head on over to Just Geeking By to find out how to submit your own entry.

I’m about as unromantic as someone can get, but there are still a few I like. Can’t really think of any in games off the top of my head I loved except for the vague thing between Kanji and Naoto in Persona 4, which is also ruined a bit since the protagonist can also date Naoto, but I guess that depends on your playthrough. These two characters had an interesting dynamic.
Since I’ve been watching some anime lately, I’ll also put up the two leads in the Planetes, Hachimaki and Ai. It’s one of the most believable romances I’ve seen in a show.

I really struggled to think of answers to some of the questions, I just couldn’t remember that many notable romance scenes! Planetes sounds interesting. I hadn’t heard of it so gave it a quick google after reading this, I might need to check it out! Thanks for reading 🙂
