Hello dear readers and welcome to this week’s Seriously Geeky Sundays post! Halloween may have been and gone but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to celebrate the spooky season so why not join me to find out about some of my favourite spooky things!
As always I want to say a big thank you to Heather over at Just Geeking By for creating this great community event, this is an excellent set of questions as always and I’m sure that the blogging community will have come up with some really interesting answers!
Now on with the questions!
What is your favourite Halloween episode, event or film?

My favourite Halloween event is simply the Halloween I have at home each year which involves drinking copious amounts of fun flavoured vodka, eating sweets and watching scary movies. Over the years I’ve watched loads of different films, but there are a few that really stand out. There are those that I watch nearly every year, including comedy classic Shaun of the Dead and the-devastating-every-time-I-watch-it The Wicker Man. Then there are those that rarely get watched because they are simply too scary. These would include The Witch, a film so bone chilling that I could barely even touch my drink whilst watching it, and 1940’s film Dead of Night, which proves once and for all that there is nothing scarier than a ventriloquist’s dummy!
Who is your favourite fictional spirit?
Yuuko Kanoe – Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Yuuko is a ghost roaming the corridors of the school she attended whilst alive, trying to rediscover her true identity and the circumstances that lead to her death. Dusk Maiden is an odd show in that it is both absurdly stupid and absolutely terrifying. Most of the time Yuuko is a fairly harmless ghost who inexplicably develops a crush on the show’s male lead Teiichi, but it turns out that she quite literally has a dark side and some of the later episodes are both scary and disturbing, showing her character to be much more complex than she may have originally seemed.
What is your go-to for spooky fandom fun at this time of year?

For this question I couldn’t really think of any fandoms I regularly return to, so instead I wanted to talk about the one thing I do every year without fail – listen to a homemade Halloween CD called Heavy Metal Halloween. It features all the scariest songs I could think of in the metal genre and some of the tracks are real favourites at any time of year. Each year the first playing of the album marks the start of Halloween festivities and I’ll listen to it most days (at least once) until sometime in early November. For those of you who like metal, the track listing is as follows:
- Scarctic Circle Gathering & Get Heavy by Lordi
- Children of the Grave by Black Sabbath
- Feed My Frankenstein by Alice Cooper
- Juular by Devin Townsend Project
- Bible Black by Heaven & Hell
- Living Dead Girl by Rob Zombie
- Dead Skin Mask by Slayer
- Night Crawler by Judas Priest
- Joan Crawford by Blue Öyster Cult
- Vincent Price by Deep Purple
- Bark at the Moon by Ozzy Osbourne
Which supernatural character do you like the most?
Bayonetta

Who could possibly resist this kick ass witch? She is one of the sharpest, wittiest and most assured video game characters I can think of and she takes absolutely everything in her stride. She is even able to deal with tragically uncool journalists and mysterious boys who can turn into squirrels. She has some fab moves too, being able to turn into a variety of animals at will, and being able to use her hair to make clothing certainly comes in handy when it comes to being fashionable. She is style and substance in all the best ways!
If you could resurrect a fandom which would it be?
Firefly

Cancelled after just one season, my heart remains heavy that Firefly was never properly resurrected and allowed to tell its full story. Featuring one of the best cast of characters I’ve ever seen, it gets everything just right when it comes to storytelling and is blessed with a humour rarely seen in science fiction. Yes there was a film, but I found it slightly lacklustre in comparison to the series itself which shined for the entirety of its 14 episode run. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so gutted about a show’s cancellation and I still to this day wish it had been able to continue.
Which character would you like to bring back?
Tasha Yar – Star Trek: The Next Generation

*Spoilers*
Tasha is a compelling character who was an original member of the crew of the Enterprise at the start of The Next Generation. She meets her demise early on in an entirely pointless way on some random planet and thus the shape of the crew changes significantly. It is even noted by the remaining crew that her death was entirely in vain. It served no story purpose and wasn’t particularly honourable or valiant. She was just killed by some random tar-like alien for no reason other than the fact she was there. She was obviously missed by the fans as she does return for an episode later on, but not in any kind of permanent way, and that episode just goes to show what a great character she was and how awesome and different TNG would have been had she lived.
So there we are! Some of my favourite spooky things! But what about you? Do you have any favourite scary things or traditions for this time of year? Let me know below in comments and don’t forget to check out all the other entries which you can find over at Just Geeking By!

I had no idea Bayonetta was a witch! I’ve never played the games, but know of her and have seen people cosplay her (a seriously wicked one by BeauPeepCosplay) I just had no clue she was a witch. I also really need to finish watching Firefly. It’s one that I’ve seen episodes here and there but keep forgetting to watch it all the way through.

Technically Bayonetta is half witch and half sage, but she was raised on the witchy side so I think that’s her main identity! I looked up that cosplay and WOW it’s amazing! Thank you for telling me about it 🙂
I’ll message you on Twitter to sign up for the secret santa! Very exciting!
