What I’ve Been Up To!

Hello dear readers and welcome to a long-overdue post here on Shoot the Rookie! As you may have noticed I have been quiet for a while so I thought I’d write a short post to update you all on what I’ve been up to!

So! There are two main reasons why I have not been posting or writing lately: football and cookery. I don’t talk about it much as it isn’t terribly relevant on a video game blog, but I am a massive football fan (anyone remember the Video Game World Cup I ran a few years ago? That was SO much fun!), and as such most of my time lately has been taken up watching Euro 2020. Over the last couple of weeks there have been two or three matches nearly every day, leaving very little time for writing.

My glorious wall chart

Not only have I watched every match so far (apart from when two take place at once of course), but for this tournament I am also taking on a cool challenge related to the football: The Euro 2020 Cookery Challenge! This involves cooking a dish for each of the 24 countries who qualified whilst the tournament is taking place. That is a lot of cooking, a lot of research, a lot of food shopping and a lot of dish cleaning, which basically means by the time I’m done each evening I’m too knackered to write.

Cooking and football are not necessarily interests many of my readers share, however if you are interested I’m posting updates on my Instagram (@pix1001) so please come and check it out and whilst you’re there check out sebg2258 as well as he is posting updates on it too.

The first eight dishes!

The football does slow down a little from this point so I may have a bit more time, however I do have other stuff going on right now (mostly diy projects), so I think it is unlikely I’ll get anything new posted until the tournament is over, partly because writing time is still scarce and partly because as well as having no time to write I also have no time to play video games or watch anime, so I don’t have much new stuff to write about anyway.

I have managed to stay just about up-to-date with My Hero Academia, and am sad that the current arc seems to be coming to a close because I’ve enjoyed it very much indeed! Elsewhere in anime I’m still enjoying Digimon Adventure 2020 and have recently started Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club which is living up to the awesome legacy of the other Love Live titles. Gaming wise, I really need to get back to Persona 5 Strikers (which I LOVE so far), and also get some words written on Final Fantasy X-2 and maybe Gravity Rush. I still have a ridiculous backlog of games to get through (mostly in the Tales of series), so I’m very much looking forward to getting back to it!

So that is pretty much it from me now, but thank you for sticking with me on this hiatus and I hope to be back to blogging regularly soon. I hope some of you are also enjoying the football (Forza Azzurri!!!) and that some of you will join me over on Instagram for a cooking extravaganza!

Thanks for reading,

Pix1001 x

  1. The cookery challenge is a brilliant idea! One of my favourite tournament activities in the past that I site I read used to run was the Pop World Cup – each player got to manage one of the teams from the football World Cup, and had to pick songs from the last four years from that country to face off against their opponents in polls. I managed the Netherlands to the quarter-finals in 2010 and South Korea to the same stage in 2014. The matches and results from the latter are here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/the-pop-world-cup-2014-a-classified-results-service-and-statistical-breakdown/. I was proud to dominate the group stage both times and get people to listen to some music I liked!

  2. That is an amazing idea – what a great way to swap music and hear new things. I’d definitely struggle to know where to start with some of the countries though.
